France or Germany?

It might sound like a very dumb question !!

But we can%26#39;t decide about going to France or to Germany to spend 5 days.

We%26#39;%26#39;ll be in Paris for 5 days and can%26#39;t decide wether to go to visit some other french cities or to visit germany.

Help

Go to Germany just for the sheer variety factor! While other French cities/regions will be different than Paris, any German city would offer a greater contrast and to my mind a more interesting trip. I like Munich, myself.

I would agree go for variety, which probably means trying a place in Germany, but it depends a bit on your preferences. Do you like French food / German food, they are different ? To my mind the best place to eat in Germany would be a little Stube (bar) serving pork schnitzel and roast potatoes.

Strasbourg is probably a mixture of cultures and has the European Parliament, being on the border. Dusseldorf is harder to get to from Paris but has a very cosmopolitan area near the river where all the foreign ships used to dock and every coujntry has its own restaurant. Frankfurt is a business centre. Aix-la Campagne / Aachen is also on the border (most cities like this have 2 names).

If you choose France I would go for a smaller town to get a contrast of culture, Honfleur perhaps. French towns are quite rich in shops because a lot of houses are still out in the country.

Germany, Germany, Germany, absolutely! Been to both France and Germany and you will LOVE Germany! See my post to you under budget hotels in Rothenburg. This is a MUST SEE medievel town filled with sights to visit!

You don%26#39;t have that much time. Stay in France. Head to Normandy after you%26#39;ve seen Paris (and Giverney early in the a.m.), or visit the chateau in the Loire Valley.

Honfleur is a pretty port town. It specializes in mussels, but I got a bad one, or two, or three in one of the big steamed pots and had a major reaction 24 hours later. I%26#39;d never had a problem with mussels before, but I%26#39;ll never eat another one, so *caution*

%26quot;Germany in five days%26quot; does not compute. There%26#39;s too much to see in the country where you are. You%26#39;re just going to have to return for a more extensive trip.

For me, it would depend on which language (if either) I can speak. Then, whichever you chose, go to a more rural region or smaller cities to contrast to the big-city Paris experience. We were in Germany (Bavaria and Black Forest) four years ago and loved it. We were in France (Burgandy) last summer and loved it. Can%26#39;t beat either one.

I prefer Germany as a travel destination; but, as you only have 5 additional days, stay in France. There is plenty of variety between rural France and Paris. Minimize the travel time to make the most of your time.

I liked the Loire Valley like Rotling.
