Need Berlin tips/help for a friend. . .

First, I am not the one traveling, which makes me envious and jealous.. . . . but, since I%26#39;m a friend, I%26#39;ll help her out anyway.

I have a good friend who is traveling to Berlin in a few days. She will be there for 3 days. She is 29 years old and is an experienced traveler, but she will be traveling alone, which makes me nervous about suggesting going out at night, which she has already said she is looking to avoid. She enjoys museums and seeing historical sights. SO. . .. .

I am trying to help her figure out what to do over there. I%26#39;ve been in the Black Forest region of Germany, but Berlin is an area I know nothing about. If any locals or fellow travelers could point out some sights she just CANNOT miss while she%26#39;s there, it would be appreciated. And as always, if there are any hidden gems or things not on the everyday tourist radar that are great, those are welcome too.

Thanks in advance for any help!

WelcomeCard for 48/72 hours is an idea

berlin-tourist-information.de/welcomecard/…

If she is into museums, there is also a 3 days museum pass which will easily pay for.

berlin-tourist-information.de/international/…

If you buy both tickets together at one of the Berlin Info Stores (~ tourist offices) you%26#39;ll save another EUR 3,00.

%26gt; And as always, if there are any hidden gems or things not on the everyday tourist radar that are great, those are welcome too.

Is she staying 3 days or 3 weeks? 3 days is not much time for Berlin.

%26gt; not on the everyday tourist radar

Berlin has no leaning tower ;-)

I.e. not all tourists visit the same places there.

i visited Berlin for only three days over new year and these are the things i really would reccommend...everyone%26#39;s different but my opinion i guess....

the jewish museum: one of the best museums i have ever visited! could%26#39;ve spent all day in there instead of just a few hours.

Checkpoint charlie museum: we had to rush inside as it woudl%26#39;ve closed otherwise and the lines were huge as it was NYE. We didn%26#39;t take the time outside to read all the graphics on the street/walls etc....you should definitely do this before going into the museum, we did it the next day and the museum visit was then much more significant.

the holocaust memorial is astounding. we visited at night which was quite eerie.

we didn%26#39;t go up the dome at the reichstag because the line was about 2 hours long and it was New Years Day 7pm and we were stuffed! still got some lovely night shots of the surrounding buildings and area etc...Also Brandenburg Gate looks great at night too.

Hi,

just back a month ago.

I would also recommend the Welcome Card and the Museum Card.

21E for the Welcome Card zones A and B(fine unless she%26#39;s going outside the city.) The Musuem Card is 15E,33E for both if you buy them together.

the Welcome Card gets you on the public transportation for 3 days, it also offers discounts to certain attractions. The Musuem card gives you entrance to some fo the top musuems in Berlin.

I visited the Pergamon, Altes(worth it to see the bust of Nerfititi)

The Hamburger Banhoff(modern art) and the Helmut Newton(this was a great photography musuem)

I got to the Reichstag at 8:30 in the morning to avoid the line. I got right in. It is worth it. The dome is an amazing desgin by Sir Norman Foster. It was also really nice walking by the Brandenburg Gate in the morning when there was no on around. Very different then during the day when there were always crowds.

I%26#39;d also suggest going to the Memorial for the Murdered Jews of Europe. It was very moving to walk through it. There is an information center underneath. This was very interesting.

I%26#39;d visit the KaDeWe. this is a big department store. go to the upper floors where there is a beautiful food market. On the top floor there is a food court. I went one day and had an amazing dessert and coffee.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I have certainly heard to get to the Reichstag early in the morning. And I think I can recommend the Holocaust/Murdered Jews Memorial (terrible just to type the name).

Again, thanks for the advice!

(1) I think that for 3 days, a guided tour would be great, from the ones offered before (see my reservations regarding new berlin tours here:

tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g187323-i135-k1211…

(2) Check Point Charlie museum is stupid and worth avoiding. There are several good museums on the topic of the Wall and the Cold War- CPC Museum has only good location, and it is relatively expensive. However, I would certainly try to visit :

- Pergamon

- The Jewish Museum (not the same as the Holocaust Memorial, and more interesting if you ask me)

- Deutsche Historische Museum (German Historical Museum) if she wants to learn more about German history (Wall etc.)

- Neue National Galerie and/or Hamburger Bahnhof for modern art

(3) I am a woman, I live in Berlin and Berlin is not dangerous at night; not half as other urban centres. She can go out freely if that what she wants. She can also take a pub crawl tour (same companies that offer the general tour also offer a pub crawl; and if that is too %26quot;young%26quot; for her, maybe this one?
