Potsdam: Sanssouci Palace

Anyboby been Sanssouci Palace Is it worth a visit?

In my opinion it is definitely worth a visit. The palace itself is pretty nice and the grounds as well.

Yes!

If you want a tour of Potsdam, I suggest organising it out of Berlin, rather than at Potsdam where we found it difficult to get help. Otherwise, get the bus from the station, numbers 695, 605, 606 to the stop %26#39;Neues Palais%26#39; as it%26#39;s a fair old walk out. Allow yourself plenty of time.

There%26#39;s also a regional train to Park Sanssouci station. If you buy the Berlin tranposrt card or Welcome card, you need zone C to go to Potsdam. It%26#39;s only a bit more for quite a long journey out.

You will be asked to wear slippers to walk round the palace, which I found detracted considerably from what I was looking at! I was too busy trying not to slip over!

It%26#39;s 25% off the 5 € entrance fee if you have the Welcome card, but if you don%26#39;t want to go in, it%26#39;s a pleasant walk round the gardens.

Thanks

How long will it take on the train to get there do you think?

If you go to Sanssouci Palace, make sure to stop at the other end of the park and go into the Neues Palace to see the Grotto Salle, walls done in very elaborate shells, crystals and minerals, amazing. It was a total surprise when I went there and one of my highlights for sure.

I can honestly say that visiting Sanssouci was the highlight of our trip to Berlin and quite refreshing after visiting the more %26#39;heavyweight%26#39; buildings, memorials and tours.

It really is the most beautiful place (both the buildings and grounds) and quite a contrast to many of the more austere places you will see in Berlin - you definitely won%26#39;t be disappointed and we can%26#39;t recommend it enough. It%26#39;s quirky in an almost English way with extravagant follies, gardens and water features and at every other turn you will find something unexpected.

It%26#39;s very straightforward to get to on the train (followed by a short bus journey) and you can easily spend a whole day there and even then you may not see everything. The grounds are immense and stunning - in particular, make sure you see Neptune%26#39;s Grotto and the Chinese tea house in the deer park.

It should take you about an hour ... depending from where in Berlin you travel to Potsdam.

Take the S-Bahn to Potsdam from where you can take the bus X15 which takes you to the Palace.

Here are several tour operators to Potsdam. I join the recommendation, not to take a tour from Potsdam central train station but from Berlin:
