Need suggestion for a room with a castle view

Dear all,

I am planning to visit Romantic Road with my husband in July. I heard that it will be really nice to get a room with a balcony with a view of the castle. Any suggestion? We%26#39;ll be driving a rental car so the accommodation can be a bit away from the town.

It is my first visit to Germany. All advice welcome.

Many thanks,

If you are refering to a view of Neuschwanstein castle, Villa Jaegerhaus is excellent. Although all rooms have a view of a castle, some are only of nextdoor Hohenschwangau castle where the family actually lived, so make sure that you get a room with a view of Neuschwanstein. The middle room one floor up facing Neuschwanstein is nice, and the room nextdoor in the NE corner has a view of both castles. You don%26#39;t have to go out on a balcony to have a view, you can do this from your bed. This is why I recommend a room one floor above the ground floor, so you can leave your curtains open without anybody being able to look in. The restaurant in the associated hotel across the road is excllent. You can book rooms and make castle tour reservations (for one or both castles) through the village website www.hohenschwangau.de . The hotel also offers packages that include the tours. Other people recommend Hotel Mueller which I%26#39;ve never stayed at and therefore can%26#39;t comment on, but I cannot imagine it being better.

A nice thing to do in the evening is to attend the musical in Fuessen. If you walk a short distance from the hotel in the direction away from Neuschwanstein, there is a nice small lake. I always enjoy taking the horse drawn carriage up to Neuschwanstein. Before or after your tour, walk up to the Marienbruecke (bridge) for a nice view down on Neuschwanstein.

We love Hotel Muller! They have lovely balcony rooms that face Neuschwanstein and the service staff is extraordinary. The balcony is the size of a patio - it is HUGE! We had room service breakfast there and looked at the castle - what a treat!

As Marcopolko said the Villa Jaegerhaus, which is a sister to the Schloss Hotel Lisl across the street (for dinner) is the best place to stay. We stayed ther on the 3rd floor, I believe, and could see Neuschwanstein from one window and the Hohenschwangau from the other window (had a top floor corner suite). It was a fabulous place to stay! Enjoy!
