Taking pictures of Frankfurt in a day

Hello everyone,

we will have a layover day in Frankfurt on June 23.

We are ariving at 14 o%26#39;clock and leaving at 6 in the morning next day.

We would like to get the most of Frankfurt during that time.

We are coming by Ryanair, which lends at Hahn. So then we will take a bus to and back from Frankfurt.

What should we see and picture during the day? Suggestion of nice places to shoot would be splendid!

Also what to do at night? We are planning to leave back to Hahn at 00:00 or a bit later? Is it safe to stay in the city during the night? We are not going to stay in a hotel.

ANY ideas are welcome!

Frankfurt isn%26#39;t the most picturesque city in Germany, but you could start with the Romerberg Platz, a square with some nice old style architecture. There a number of restaurants and cafes around the square. Across the river is Sachsenhausen, an area filled with bars, some Appelwoi (Apple wine) restaurants, etc. I haven%26#39;t been there in a while but it could get pretty rowdy on a Saturday night.

If you want something a bit more sedate, try the Fressgass/Bockenheimer Strasse (U-Bahn, S-Bahn to Hauptwache or U7 to Alte Oper).

Frankfurt Hahn is a long way from Frankfurt-am-Main (it%26#39;s Ryanair%26#39;s definition of geography like %26quot;Barcelona Girona%26quot; and %26quot;Barcelona Reus%26quot;) and there are more picturesque places nearer Hahn such as Trier (Roman city) and the Mosel valley. Even to get to Koblenz is a lot quicker (Koblenz is where the River Mosel joins the Rhine).

Look at www.hahn-airport.de and %26quot;getting there : bus%26quot; and you have buses to Trier, Traben-Trabach (Mosel), also to Mainz and Simmern for connection to Bingen (on the Rhine).

All are more%26quot;picture-book Germany%26quot;. Frankfurt was very badly bombed so the Old Town was destroyed and even the Römerberg was rebuilt. But if you do go, the area along the River Main is nice, with large villas converted into museums.

You will spend too much time on the bus going to Frankfurt, with minimal reward. Also, I%26#39;m not sure how the bus schedule would be for your early AM return.

From Hahn, go to Trier and/or nearby wine villages on the Mosel. It is much more photogenic than Frankfurt. Frankfurt is a clarge metropolitan city to visit with more time, but for your time frame, IMHO enjoy the great possibiltiies nearer to Hahn airport.

Thank you all for the informative replies!

Will consider every option ;)

Speakinf of those %26quot;wine villages on the Mosel%26quot;, which bus/direction should I choose from Hahn to get there?

I%26#39;m looking here -%26gt; www.hahn-airport.de/default.aspx…

but do not see buses to Mosel... am I missing anything?

Good question...Mosel is the river, called Moselle in France, which flows through the valley there. You might take the bus to Trier, where picture taking and finding some places to eat and drink would be easy and convenient. An example of smaller villages a little south would be Bernkastel-Kues, for example.

. You don%26#39;t want to stay in a hotel, and had asked if Frankfurt was safe overnight. I don%26#39;t have a specific answer to that; .probably Trier, less urban, might be safer, yet have interesting bars until closing. After that, I don%26#39;t know where you%26#39;d go without a hotel room.
