Next Week in Germany

I will be in Cologne, Germany on Saturday with my husband. We have no plans, hotels, or definate path for the week. We do have a rental car. I think we want to go down the Romantic Road to Munich, through the Black Forest, and up the Rhine River.

Any recommendations?

Sounds too much if you mean you want to see all that in a week. I think you have to choose and either do Rhine down to Black Forest or go down to Munich on the Romantic Road. Even those aren%26#39;t exactly leisurely but you will at least be able to stop and enjoy some of the places en route.

At Koblenz you might want to head up the Mosel River, especially if you are a wine drinker. Germans love the rieslings of this region, and there are some nice villages to visit, boat rides to take, and nice restaurants along the river to enjoy. You will get more exercise here than you will driving in a car every day.

If you are a beer drinker, check out Cologne%26#39;s beerhalls in your tourist book. They all have their unique atmosphere, and the ,2 glasses of beer are special for the area.

As others have said, you are trying to do way too much, you can easily spend your whole short vacation in one place and close to it and you won%26#39;t run out of excellent things to see and do. If you want to do what you have suggested, much of it can be accomplished by driving to two places on the Romantic Road, Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Neuschwanstein Palace, but don%26#39;t drive the Romantic Road itself (which isn%26#39;t romantic but the places on it would be considered by some to be) but the A7 autobahn which connects these two places in about three hours, and are the highlights of the Romantic Road. You could also include the Residence in Wuerzburg as it is on your way. After Neuschwanstein you could skip Munich as it is out of your way, and drive via the Bodensee (Lake Constance- Meersburg is the loveliest town on the lake and has Germany%26#39;s oldest castle) to the Black Forest. From there you can head north by autobahn and see the best part of the Rhine which lies between Mainz and Koblenz. It%26#39;s a fair amount of driving but you%26#39;ll be able to see some excellent places to visit, but you%26#39;ll also drive by a lot more of them. For instance, you could climb the world%26#39;s tallest church steeple in Ulm or visit Heidelberg.
