Day trips from Heidelberg

My daughter and I will be in the Heidelberg area for 5 days and would like some suggestions for day trips from the Heidelberg area. We would even consider spending a night in another location.

you could drive along the river Neckar to Bad Wimpfen , scenic route with castles .

Bad Wimpfen is a historic little town

When? Will you use public transport or do you have a car?

the already mentioned Neckar valley, e.g. the 4 castles in Neckarsteinach

Speyer

Weinheim

*) UNESCO world heritage sites

local public transport / VRN area

for 2 persons the 24 hour mini group ticket %26quot;Ticket 24 PLUS%26quot; is the best deal. If bought on a Saturday not just valid 24 hours, but till 3am of Monday. Price depends on the number of zones covered. The price for the complete VRN area is EUR 18,50.

Mannheim (more than twice as big as Heidelberg) has some interesting museums and is good for tourist free shopping (Heidelberg%26#39;s old town is a quite touristic).

Thank you for the tips. We will have a car.

If you are looking for a half-day excursion, you could also consider the Schwetzingen Castle and Gardens. The gardens are the big draw. There are immaculate formal gardens and wilder %26quot;English%26quot; gardens, with follies. After looking round the gardens (allow 2-3 hours) you can have a bite to eat on the market square. Then back to Heidelberg for the afternoon.

All the best

Simon
