Single Rooms - Can Two People Sleep There?

I%26#39;m traveling with my wife and we are trying to stay in the city center while reducing the costs. My question is can two people stay in a single room? Do the hotels monitor it closely whether you have two people go into a single room? We plan on spending very little time in the room but we want something a little more safe (for belongings) and private than a hostel. Any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Single rooms have a single bed and rooms are small, and you would not be comfortable. I found this in Munich and all of Europe as I travel mostly as a single.

First, what you plan to do is illegal. I don´t think you want to ruin your travel experience by being, at least, thrown out of the hotel - with a possible close acquanitance with the police.

Many hostels offer double rooms too - cheaper and with less amenities than an usual hotel but at least you have your privacy and don´t have to sleep both in one 90 cm bed.

Deke -- single rooms have one twin bed. I don%26#39;t know anybody whose marriage could survive that! LOL

It%26#39;s not a matter of the front desk monitoring -- it%26#39;s that a single room is designed for a single person.

contact the Munich Tourism Office:

muenchen.de/Rathaus/raw/Tourismusamt/hotel/1…

You can even phone them -- there is almost always an English-speaking operator on staff.

They will find you a hotel close to the city center that is within your budget, and the service will only cost you a few well-earned Euros. It%26#39;s well worth the price.

altimiro,

That was the point of the post to know whether it was frowned upon or whether it was just the way they sell the rooms. No reason to take offense.

Your savings would not be huge, anyway. As a single traveller, I usually end up paying about 3/4, not half, of the going double rate in most hotels for a single. Of course, that varies, but it%26#39;s not the best way to save if travelling as a couple.

Also, if you look for the small 1 and 2 star hotels which include breakfast, then you are starting your day with one meal included. Even in a budget hotel in Germany, the breakfast will include coffee and a basket with possibly yogurt, roll, some wurst. It can also include cereal choices and soft-boiled eggs and juice. That%26#39;s a nice way to start the day together!

Look up hotel prices in Germany and elsewhere in Europe on www.hrs.de for some ideas. Enjoy your trip!

I think it was perfectly fair for someone to advise it%26#39;s illegal. You did ask and had the answer -no offense. Best you know for sure.

It%26#39;s also true that in most single rooms, one of you would have to sleep on the floor at a push. They don%26#39;t all have twin beds as advised, many have a small single bed only.

What budget do you have in mind?

You can save money by staying in a 2*-3* hotel with shared bathrooms in the corridors. Then you%26#39;ll get a good size room much cheaper. These rooms are usually 25% cheaper than en-suite but have the good standard of rooms and services.

Good luck

If you%26#39;ve never been to Europe singe rooms over here are MUCH smaller than they are in the United States. Whether it is illegal or not isn%26#39;t the point. But to answer your question.......single rooms are designed for 1 person. That is all you are paying for. If you are looking to save some cash look into a hostel at hostelworld.com. You can even find some with a private bathroom. You might get lucky and find a double with a private bathroom. Just make sure you check with the description to see if they have a curfew if you plan on staying out late.

%26quot;illegal or not isn%26#39;t the point%26quot;

I really don%26#39;t understand that remark, no offense.:-)

I think it is exactly an important point worth knowing. Depending on the hotel policy, if caught, it could cause a lot of unwelcome trouble.

I shared a single room at one of the hostels during oktoberfest by the hauptbahnhof. The desk clerk seemed to frown upon it, but he could probably sense our desperation and didn%26#39;t say anything. I thought the room was more than spacious.

I agree with Stoofer. No advice for cheats... ;)
