We will be traveling from Nuremberg (early morning in July) to visit the Neuschwanstein Castle and would like to return back to Nuremberg via Munich and spend a few hours there (in Munich that is). Can anyone advise me on the fastest route to drive back on a Wednesday afternoon? Many thanks!

I would rather use the time to explore some other highligts near Neuschwanstein, e.g. Linderhof Castle and Wieskirche.

Travelling by car in Europe, I use viamichelin.com to provide an idea regarding distances, travel times, and approximate costs. You can define parameters such as: shortest route, quickest route, etc.
For this particular route, with an originating point near Schwangau, follow B17 north to A96 that leads into Munich.

Thanx ger3sf!! That%26#39;s kind of the route I was planning on taking, but I%26#39;ll have a look at the link as well. My road map was from 2001 and I was worried a little outdated (they do tend to build a little faster there than here in Canada :-)) Best!
