Aussie couple want to fly sydney to berlin in late august.
Seems we will have to take a local flight from one of the european hubs.
Any ideas on most economical options?

Try looking on the Webjet or Travelocity websites to get the flights you want. The advantage of both websites is that they%26#39;ll bring up a range of carriers and prices for you to choose from. Just keep an eye on the number of stopovers before you book.
Have a great trip. Berlin is an absolutely fantastic city!

P.S. And also try Expedia for flights.

But see that this is a connecting flight - not a seperatly booked local flight.
From Frankfurt you can also use the trains. Many airlines offer Rail%26amp;Fly tickets.

Unless you can get a good deal via Frankfurt, it%26#39;s usually best to travel via London Heathrow - my daughter has done this a number of times from New Zealand. BA/Qantas can probably give you a through fare, otherwise Heathrow - Berlin is about £110 with BA from Heathrow, but if you decide to stop in London, Easyjet will probably be cheaper from Luton or Gatwick and Ryanair or Air Berlin (the best short-haul airline) from Stansted.

When I used to fly from the Middle East to Germany on Lufthansa, I was always given my continuation flight to my final German destination from Frankfurt free. You might check if they will also do that for you. A continuation flight with other airlines from their European hub city may also be inexpensive.

Check with the Arabian carriers. The connection via Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha is a very fast one from Australia, the on-board service is excellent, much better than with European carriers. And some offer non-stop flights to Berlin from their Arabian hub.
