Ideas about spending time - what do you like/want to do?
Getting to the theme park - you land at Baden-Baden, so you can visit the town as well (regular bus from the airport), then take the train to Freiburg. www.bahn.de is for schedules from any given place in Germany to any other place (you can also feed it with addresses) by public transport.
To Europa Park there are regular buses from Freiburg.

To get to Europa Park (www.europapark.de) you can purchase a combination-ticket from the ticket office or a machine at a train station that is good for both the admission to the park and transporation by train and bus to reach there. You can find information on the internet at www.bahn.de/baden-wuerttemberg . I%26#39;ve never visited this site so I don%26#39;t know whether it has English on it. A group of four can also travel on the Baden-Wuertemberg Laender ticket inexpensively, but with some resricions. If you inquire at the train station (or perhaps abalada can advise) they should tell you your cheapest option.
For other things to do you might like to visit the Black Forest, Freiburg im Breisgau, Strasbourg, France or Baden Baden.

Personally I wouldn%26#39;t stay in Karlsruhe. There isn%26#39;t a lot on an evening. I would drive the 1hr 20 mins to Freiburg (straight down A5). Although it is closer to Europa park so really your half way there. There is quite a reasonable hotel on the outskirts called The Classic, www.classichotel.de and you can easily get a taxi into Freiburg for a few Euros. Perhaps you might want to get away from typical drinking places but the irish bar, Isle of innisfree is a really good place to go Fri/Sat night. One thing to remember in Germany, everywhere closes on a Sunday.
