Getting excited about upcoming trip to Germany and Italy - Anyone come across things that are a a good buy even with the weak dollar. I%26#39;m looking forward to buying some nice things but am preparing for sticker shock. Chothes? China? Jewelry? Anything still a good buy for us Americans??

No! I think the U.S. Government wants the dollar lower to stop people from traveling to and living in other countries. The U.S. Government is so corrupt and political in everthing it does. Everything is politics. We just got back from europe and the dollar is so low its like throwing money away every time you exchange
U.S. money. I still am going to vacation in other countries most of the time and probably retire in another country.
thanks

Even when the dollar was strong, there were hardly savings on things that paid for flight to Germany and the cost of shipping them back, maybe taking delivery in Germany on a German built car, if that is what you would have bought anyway.
There use to be the advantage of finding something in Germany or France or Italy that you could not find in American. With the internet I wonder if that is still true.
Hope you had other reasons to visit Europe.
Regards, Gary

Go to a good German auction house like Eppli in Stuttgart and you can find some nice antiques at very low prices including antique jewelry which is easily transportable. Almost anything else probably isn%26#39;t that good of a bargain. You could also participate in order a German car, accept delivery in Germany, drive around, and then they will ship it back to the US for you. Porsche, Mercedes Benz and BMW all have such programs, and you probably will save some money if you have wanted to buy such a car.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I%26#39;m glad everyone things the car situation is a good one. In fact, BMW really does seem to make it a good deal with both the car and a free ticket on Lufthansa. We are picking up a BMW in Munich. Of course we%26#39;re going for other reasons, especially introducing our kids to European cultures. It always fun to find some nice things to bring home that you can%26#39;t get here and that are concrete reminders of special trips.

At least the price on the sticker is the price you pay in Europe ie value-added-tax (sales tax) is included in the price posted. Although non-Eu residents can claim that tax back in some circumstances .
I still remember my surprise at %26quot;10 for a dollar%26quot; postcards not being just a dollar (in NYC, a while ago admittedly) .
