Munich-Rome-Milan

I have booked cheap airline tickets to Munich from london and then back from Milan to London after having noticed a cheap flight to Venice from Munich. Now I can%26#39;t get this for my dates beginning of august.

Ideally would like to see the Alps-whichever border(and spend a couple of days walking etc),Neuschwanstein castle, venice,Rome and Florence. This is a family trip with a child and grandparents too , so don%26#39;t want to exhaust them.I understand from the posts on this forum that renting a car in munich and returning in Italy would be too expensive. Can anyone please suggest a sensible itinerary, possibly with trains although I am nervous about my ability to book from here.I could cancel the ticket from Milan and return from Rome possibly.Total number of days available as per current tickets-9

Can anyone please help?

With 9 days I would do no more than Munich - (Bavarian) Alps - Venice - Milan.

Venice - Rome - Milan is a lot of backtracking. And for Rome you really need 3-4 days alone. Which is minus the travel time not much else for the rest. And while Rome is certainly a must see once destination - August can be damn hot there.

In Bavaria you can use the Bavaria Ticket for the trains. A day ticket covering all local trains in Bavaria. And most other local public transport (buses, in Munich also U-Bahn and trams). EUR 27,00 for 2-5 persons.

what then would be a good place to stay in bavaria and how do I get from there to Venice?

Also any idea if there are farm holidays/guesthouses in that region-we once did that in Austria and it was great.

Many thanks for your reply

From Garmisch-Partenkirchen / Mittenwald you can travel by train to Innsbruck (a scenic route) and from there onwards to Venice.

Basically there are only 2 routes (1,5 as from Innsbruck there is only one route towards Italy)

a) Munich - Garmisch-Partenkirchen - Mittenwald - Innsbruck - Brenner - Venice

b) Munich - Rosenheim - Kufstein - Innsbruck - Brenner - Venice
