My family are planning a week in Munich in July.
As we are on a bit of a budget (not exactly on a shoestring, but we haven%26#39;t got a fortune to spend either), and have heard that Munich can be a bit expensive, I would really appreciate some advice on where where we can eat inexpensively.
My apologies to Germany that we are not planning to spend lots, but we really want to visit Munich and Bavaria and are taking advantage of the new easyjet route from Edinburgh to Munich.
Thank you.

To give you an idea of the prices here the ones of two very famous places

(and cklick on the US/Union Jack flag button)
I think these prices are OK. If you keep in mind that Hofbräuhaus is the most famous beer hall on the planet.
If you go to the beer halls/gardens the local prefer to go to you can find even better price/value relations. Of course there are also posh places in Munich you can spent a lot of money.
And the usual range of cheap ethnic take aways/small restaurants. But that%26#39;s of course not typical Bavarian.
Regions like the Bavarian Forest (towards the Czech Republic) or Franconia (around Nuremberg) are considerably cheaper to eat out and have a beer than Munich.
And there are some damn nice spots to have a beer

The food around Victualienmarkt is excellent and good value.
The Nordsea fish place there has good meals for around EUR7,
and of course you have all the Bavarian food stalls serving hearty fare that will fill you up for EUR5. Plus a beer or two in their great garden of course!!:-)

Compared to e.g. Edinburgh, you won%26#39;t find Munich too expensive. Rule of thumb for food and drinks: In Munich you pay in Euro what you would pay in pounds in Edinburgh. I did a post some days ago about inexpensive eats in Munich (search the forum). Plus the area around the university has some good deals for meals and drinks (Adalbertstrasse, Türkenstrasse and such). July might be good for beergarden, bring your own food and buy the drinks there, totally legal (in fact this habit was secured by law some years ago) and often done by the local folks.
Looking forward to do a trip to Edinburgh with easyjet, one of my fav cities!

Sorry for the delay, but just getting round to thanking all who replied to my question. I very much appreciate the advice and am looking forward to trying out some of the places suggested.
Kwenga - I hope that you are able to visit Edinburgh soon. It%26#39;s great that we have the new Easyjet route!! You%26#39;ll probably already know, but to enjoy Edinburgh at it%26#39;s best, time your visit to coincide with the Festival during August. The city is jam-packed, but there is so much to see and do.
Thanks, and best wishes.
