Heidelberg to Frankfurt Airport

What%26#39;s the fastest way to go from Muhltstr. Heidelberg to Frankfurt Airport if you%26#39;re flight out is at 9 AM?

|||

Muhltstr.?

There is a Mühltalstr. in Heidelberg-Hanschuhsheim.

DB timetable

reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en…

From: [address] Heidelberg, Muehltalstr. 1

To: [station/stop] FRA airport

Mühltalstr. (or Muehltalstr.) is a long street. Thus you should add the correct house no.

Than you have to check when you have to be at Frankfurt airport. For intercontinental flights this is normally 2 hours before departure.

Its about 1-2 hours on the train with 1 change in Mannheim or Frankfurt.

It%26#39;s much easier to take the Lufthansa airport bus from Heidelberg. It runs from very early in the morning until very late:

http://www.lufthansa-airportbus.com/

The Lufthansa Bus is 36€ per person return and runs on the hour. The trip time is 75 minutes. There are 9 seats so you have to book. It drops off at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Passage at Kurfürstenanlage 1-3.

I have been clicking around the Bahn.de train site (there is an English button fortunately as I can do times in German but not the fine details). I am travelling on a Sunday so I think if I book 7 days ahead I can get 2 people travelling together for 30€ on the Spar 50 rate, with discounts for booking ahead and for 2 travelling together. As there are 2 or 3 trains an hour and only one change I%26#39;m most likely to do that. The trip time is under an hour if you change at Mannheim, for a few euros more and a bit longer journey you can change at Frankfurt main station but there are engineering works on Sundays according to the website. The fully flexible fare midweek is 46€ for 2 (I think that%26#39;s also the walk-up price) which still beats the bus price. The rail station is about a mile out of town from the Crown Plaza but there is a bus from there direct o my hotel so I shall probably go that way.

There are basically 3 possible routes from Heidelberg using public transport.

1. via Mannheim

- fast ICEs from Mannheim to Frankfurt Airport (30 min.)

- no local trains on the Mannheim - Frankfurt Airport route

2. via Weinheim, Darmstadt and Frankfurt Hbf

- you can use local trains on this route

3. same route, but airport express bus from Darmstadt to Frankfurt Airport

On a Sunday you could travel on the Happy-Weekend-Ticket (EUR 33,00) if using local trains. Valid for 1-5 persons. This ticket covers also the trams and buses in Heidelberg. Perfect for using route #2.

Also possible with #3, but here you have to pay a express bus surcharge of EUR 2,00 pp.

A tip when travelling via Mannheim:

As there are so many S-Bahn and RB/RE trains between Heidelberg and Mannheim use a VRN ticket for this part and buy DB tickets just for Mannheim to Frankfurt airport.

http://www.vrn.de

In this case:

Buy on Saturday a VRN Ticket 24 PLUS price level 4-5: EUR 13,50.

This is a mini group 24 hour ticket. With the special ruling that if it is bought on Saturday it%26#39;s even valid till 3am next weekday.

With this ticket you can travel around in Heidelberg on Saturday and on Sunday you can use it to travel from Heidelberg to Mannheim.
