We will lay over in Frankfurt for an afternoon and night next week. How do we get from the airport by train to downtown and the Arabella Sheraton? Assuming we have one afternoon and evening, what suggestions for sighseeing?

S-Bahn trains from Terminal 1.
Travel time to the Hauptbahnhof (main railway station) is 11 minutes. To Hauptwache stop, in the centre of the city and next to the main shopping street, the %26quot;Zeil%26quot;, you need 15 minutes.
Single ticket is EUR 3,55. Mini group (2-5 persons) day ticket is EUR 13,40.
ArabellaSheraton Grand Hotel, Konrad-Adenauer-Str. 7, Frankfurt
This is next to the stop Konstablerwache, one stop after Hauptwache.
Note: there are several ArabellaSheraton hotels in Frankfurt - this was a just guess by me. There is also a ArabellaSheraton Congress Hotel and ArabellaSheraton Am Büsing Palais (in Offenbach, but often %26quot;sold%26quot; as Frankfurt).

Hauptwache is #18
Konstablerwache is the (S)-Bahn stop at the end of the Zeil street (near #23).

At the airport to to Terminal 1 - Regional Train Station (basement of T1) and take eastbound S8 or S9 to Frankfurt city center. Disembark at Konstablerwache and follow signs to %26quot;Konrad-Adenauer-Allee%26quot;. Once you%26#39;re up in the street the hotel is on your left hand side.
Note that the hotel is currently being refurbished and will be converted into a Westin Grand.
Your hotel is located in a not so nice area of Frankfurt. Whenever you leave the hotel for walks, shopping etc. head into Western direction (towards the skyscrapers). It%26#39;s a 5 to 10 mins walk along the pedestrian zone %26quot;Zeil%26quot; to Hauptwache and onwards the the Opera Square where you%26#39;ll love it much more.

Thanks for the info. How much would a taxi cost? Maybe with three of us it would not be cost prohibitive?

Taxi will be approx. EUR 25,00.
But you will need also approx. twice as long as by S-Bahn. Even more during rush hours.
The S-Bahn is using nearly the %26quot;perfect line%26quot; between both points.

Taxi will definitely be in the €35 area. Frankfurt%26#39;s got Germany%26#39;s highest taxi fares and since the increase of sales tax to 19% on Jan 1st the prices seem to have skyrocketed.
From the underground station Konstablerwache it%26#39;s less than a minute%26#39;s walk to your hotel.
If you insist on Taxi try to find one with a blue round dot in the wind screen. All taxi%26#39;s look the same in Germany so to find your service provider of choice is a bit tricky. The blue dot ones are the cabs from the %26quot;MainTaxi%26quot; company. They%26#39;re the only ones where it%26#39;s guaranteed the driver speaks German and at least sufficient English.
If you let Main Taxi know about your flights, arrival time etc. they arrange pick-up service at the airport with name sign and all for you. And it%26#39;s all free, all for the regular taxi tariff of €35 round about.
Prior to your departure call +49 69 73 30 30 and ask for an airport pick up service. They require your complete flight details (of the flight that actually takes you into Frankfurt.). Tell them how many your are in your group and what the total amount of suitcases is. Remind the operator that you%26#39;re English speaking only and you will be able to enjoy limousine transfer service for the regular cab fee.
After business trips to the Middle East, Asia and the US I always use that service.
