Cochem to Trier

Can you take a boat ride from Cochem to Trier by boat for a day trip or is that a silly question? We will be in Cochem for two days and thought it would be nice to see Trier too.

I%26#39;m bumping this up because I%26#39;m also interested in this possibility. I vaguely remember taking a boat from Trier to Cochem many many years ago. I%26#39;ve since been to both Cochem and Trier and can find boats for shorter excursions to Bernkastel or Beilstein, etc., but can%26#39;t find info on a boat going Trier-Cochem and reverse. I suspect there was a boat company doing this at one time.

The train is very convenient between the two cities, but of course lacks that wonderful view unwinding through the landscape and villages along the Mosel.

It is a great idea to visit Trier. It%26#39;s beautiful. I%26#39;ve never took a boat, since it takes a lot of time. I suspect that it would take a whole day to get there and back. Taking a train as suggested above is definitely a way to go.

However, there is so much to see. You can spend easily a half day in Cochem. Visiting Reichsburg (a castle) is a must. Almost all villages in the valley are beautiful. Beilstein, you can get there by boat, is some 14 km (8 miles away). It is small but very beautiful. Another great town is Bernkastel-Kues, can be some 50-60 km away by boat. Both are direction Trier. In the opposite direction, there is awesome castle Eltz. Starting point is village Moselkern.

As you will see, two days are not that much. If you decide to go to Trier, you will need a whole day. It leaves you with another one for the rest. And do not forget wine tasting.

I think the Koln-Dusseldorfer Ship company used to have a scheduled time-table, but they do not anymore, at least not down past Cochem.

As mentioned earlier, the train is your best option, I don%26#39;t know about buses, but that would be a pleasant journey along the banks of the Mosel.

http://www.kolb-mosel.de

offers Cochem to Traben-Trarbach as a day trip.

-%26gt; Fahrpläne -%26gt; Bereich Bernkastel

If you click on a town, you%26#39;ll get the timetables of the boats serving it.

Cochem to Trier is not offered. Not even sure if this would be possible in one day (single trip).

There are boats

Cochem - Traben-Trarbach

Traben-Trarbach - Bernkastel

Bernkastel - Trier

Thanks to everyone for your responses but we were in Germany when they were posted but we had a great time in Cochem and we did get to Beilstein and two days was not enough! We never made it to Trier - next time perhaps. We did go down to Wurzburg for a few days, Bamberg for one and Rudesheim for a few! Just so many places to see.
