thanks for the info- one other question about the passes, please- are they only for consecutive days, or can I use them for one day, skip a day, then use again the next, etc, in other words, during my week-long Berlin stay, may I use the card for any 3 of the days? Thanks again!

Berlin Welcome Card 48 or 72 hours

72 hours can be 3 days, but also 0,4+1+1+0,6 days. But the 72 hours start from the moment on you stamp/validate the pass.
There is also a 3-day museums pass

This pass is for 3 consecutive calendar days.
If you buy the Welcome Card together with the museum pass e.g. at one of the Berlin Infostores (~ tourist offices) than you %26#39;ll get a 3 Euro discount.
The museums pass makes already sense if you plan to visit 3 of the major museums.
There is also a 7-day pass only for local public transport.
