Hi, my partner and I will be in Berlin at the end of Aug / beginning of Sept for 3-4 days and I%26#39;m looking for advice on what we should do or see. We%26#39;re in our early twenties but we want to sample more than the nightlife. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Thanks :)

What are your interests (art, history, cycling, shopping???). That wd affect our suggestions.
You cd look at Berlin attractions (link in left-hand column here) and that might get you started. Same goesfor Hamburg and Hannover.

To get an overview of Berlin sights you could do a walking tour. Brewers, Insider or Berlin Walks are just some of the companies who offer a tour.
If the weather is nice you could do boat trip which is nice way to spend a few relaxing hours plus you do see a few sights.
Other things worth doing are
going to one of the many cafes who offer breakfast, especially nice are the breakfast buffets who are offered at many cafes on Sundays.
wandering over the Winterfeldmarket (Farmers market) on a WEdnesday or Saturday
Doing a Trabi Safari http://www.trabi-safari.de/
Doing an underground tour with http://www.berliner-unterwelten.de/

Hi
thanks for your suggestions, my boyfriend is really excited about the TraubiSafari! But do you know do we need Full Driving Licences?
We%26#39;re not big art fans, we more sightseeing people. My boyfriend is a car fanatic, when we visited the West of Germany two years ago we had to visit every car museem!
Thanks again

Don%26#39;t know if you need a driving licence for the Trabi Safari ... why don%26#39;t you send them an e-mail.
I know that one is usually driving but you have the possibility to be just a passenger in the car.

Thanks :)

Brandenburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie, Reichstag building (go early or late to avoid queues %26amp; it%26#39;s free!) are easily done on one day together with a river trip which is surprisingly good - the one-hour one is cheap and probably enough for a flavour.
Sanssouci at Potsdam is a bit of a haul out of town (and you need the C zone travel ticket), but very impressive. If you decide to do this, I%26#39;d recommend a tour from the centre, more expensive, but easier than working out buses etc. from Potsdam station.
See the East Side gallery with a stretch of the wall. Use Ostbahnhof.
Wish I%26#39;d done: the zoo, Trabi safari, DDR museum.
Do plan for a wet day and get a good transport map as early as possible to save time when you%26#39;re there.

Forgot to mention the Postdamer Platz. Cross over diagonally opposite to where you see the modern roof structure. Inside there%26#39;s a 21st century world of restaurants and, amongst other displays, an impressive IMAX cinema. On 1st visit to the Platz, you could easily not know how much is there.

Not sure what days you%26#39;re there but some museums are open into the evening some days:
DDR-Museum (mentioned here) is open till 8pm every day except Sat (open till 10pm). Museums on Museum Island (and some others) are open till 10pm on Thursdays and it%26#39;s free entry after 6pm. Jewish Museum also till 8pm every day, except Mon (till 10pm)
Entry to Reichstag dome till 10pm, TV tower till midnight (has a bar and restaurant). The Panoramapunkt viewing platform at Potsdamer Platz 1 is open till 8pm (last entry 7.30pm)

Sachenhausen Concentration Camp. Keeps it all in perspective. It is a good contrast to see how far Berlin has come in a relatively short period of time. Also the Topography of Terror. And have a drink outside at the Hotel Adlon by the Brandenburg Gate.

Hi,
I just got back from Berlin a few weeks ago,
Here are some ideas.
One,
You can get a Welcome Card which will allow you to travel on the public transportation for 3 days, cost 21E This is for zones a and b.
The Museum Card is 15E and allows you entrance to many of the top museums in Berlin. if you purchase these two together you save 3E. The Welcome card also gives you discounts on many things in Berlin. I did two walking tours and saved 3E on each. I also saved a few E on entrance to the Berliner Dom.
There are some companies that offer bike tours of Berlin that sound like a lot of fun.
The Pergamon Museum, has the Pergamon alter, The gates of Ishtar,
The Altes Museum, worth going to see the bust of Nerfitti
The Hamburger Banhoff Museum, Berlins modern art museum. I really liked this museum.
The Helmut Newton museum, Great Newton exhibit and Lachapell exhibit as well.
These were all covered by the museum card.
The Reichstag, I would defenitely go up in the dome. There is generally a line, but if you get there early in the morning(I went at 8:30) of later in the evening there isn%26#39;t really a line.
The Memorial to the Murdered Jews Of Europe, This was incredibly moving. More so once I walked through it. The information center underneath was very moving as well.
The East Side Gallery, this is the largest section of the Wall still standing. It was painted by artists from all over when the East German goverment fell. I am so happy I took the time to go here.
