Yes; the dollar is low in europe. It was a nice trip to France and Germany for the first time. But probably never come back again.
The U.S. dollar will probably be worth a lot more in southeast asia
or the carribian and the people seem to be a lot more friendly and polite.
Thanks;

It does make going over to Euope alot more expensive. I have had to cut my trips short, from an anerage of 9 or 10 days - down to 5 or 6 the past few years..

Before you go to the Caribbean, learn how to spell it...

I wonder if he tried the beer? I love Germany and will be back this winter!

Obviously, when the dollar drops against the Euro, it makes things more expensive. However, I feel this makes for an opportunity to do more research and seek out other accommodations, restaurants etc.
You can still travel in Europe and not break the bank it just takes a willingness to adjust, try something different and perhaps settle for a bit less than what you would want in an ideal world. You don%26#39;t need $150.00/night hotels and eat in fancy restaurants.
Oh, and %26quot;funlover1, I have travelled in Germany each of the past three years and have found Germans friendly, helpful, and polite. Sorry if you ran into the opposite, but you can always encounter a jerk or a person who hates his job, or who is just having a bad day. That%26#39;s no reason to slam an entire country.

*chuckling* I%26#39;ve been going to Europe for 35 years, and I%26#39;ve always found the people to be friendly, helpful, and kind. But then again, I treat them with respect in return - us Canadians are funny that way. I conduct myself accordingly as well - ie. being a *guest* in their country, and not a %26#39;bull in a china shop%26#39;.
I was in Germany and Portugal this past May and I found allllll kinds of great deals with jewellry, clothes, shoes, and food. I had such a good time that I%26#39;m heading back to Germany in July and then tripping down to Italy.
I%26#39;m sad for you that you had such a different experience than I always do. :(
Best wishes on your visits to SE Asia. I do hope you find what you%26#39;re looking for there.
Kind regards,
GS in Canada

I just realized I might have misinterpreted the %26quot;fun%26quot; in funlover. South East Asia... saving a buck or two... eh? ;-) I got it...
You went to visit the wrong European countries. The kind of fun where your dollar counts something is actually best found in the Ukraine, Moldova, Romania and Bulgaria... They%26#39;re all non-€uro countries either...

Andreas: MOST Americans, including myself, do not want anything to do with the war in Iraq. Almost every American wanted to be outta there right after getting-rid of Saddam, or NOT go in there at all. Also, the average traveler cannot control the Dollar or any other piece of currency - that is for the 1% of the ultra rich to do. A weak dollar cannot be good for the German or French travel industries.

The high quality service industry in U.S. and particularly Florida is well known in Europe, so perhaps your experience could be answered with a question:
Maybe Europeans are just more honest when they encounter ignorant people of any nationality? :-) Instead of a smile and %26quot;have a nice day%26quot; you get back what you put out. Most Europeans are polite.
Regarding War and $??? It will go way off topic.
However I note that Mr Bush is in Albania telling them how he will help them take Kosova from Serbia, so more trouble ahead. Yet
another country that Bush %26amp; Co. know nothing about but are prepared to start wars in total ignorance as to why, or where it will end. I wonder if he would be so agressive in tactics if it was close to U.S. borders?
Bad thought for a Monday morning:-)
No offense to our American friends.

I know this is no political forum but I have to make an addition to Stoofer%26#39;s comments:
On the right.-wing ultra-christian-conservative US news station Fox News one of the anchors explained to the Americans why even the conservative candidates for the next presidency are bashing Bush nowadays. He said Bush was about to cause a new Cold War with his missile defense system in Eastern Europe.
The problem is that the American people re-elected him 2 years ago. Electing him the 1st time could just be called a mistake. But then willingly re-electing him?...
I don%26#39;t think %26quot;funlover1%26quot;%26#39;s problems were of political nature though. It%26#39;s probably really that he%26#39;s so used to the phoneyness in the American service industry that frank and blunt behavior as can be found in Europe alianeted him.
