Berlin in July

Hi. Myself and 3 mates are off to Berlin between 6th and 9th July to celebrate my Birthday. We will be staying at the Hyatt

I would like to do the following over the 4 days and would be really grateful if anyone could recommend anything good on the particular days (so that i could pre-book if need be)

Friday 6th: having just landed it would be nice to go to some cool bars, possibly a bit of people watching (or rooftop view perhaps!), then possibly a club with some recognizable music (jazz, soul, funk,80s....anything really just nothing too heavy like techno or metal)

Saturday 7th: Daytime will probably be the main sightseeing, can anyone recommend a good spot for lunch/Dinner, particularly a place that does good fish options? Also any particularly good niights out on this day? Any nice river-facing bars if its a nice day?

Sunday: Are there any activities/markets etc that might be on in the daytime? I particularly wanted to find out what the nightlife will be like on this day. Are bars/clubs open til late? if so it would be great if someone could recommend some.

Monday: will probably be hungover and not wanting to go back to the UK,,,,,,,,,,

Apologies if this post has turned out a bit lengthy its just that its my 30th this year so want to make it special

Thanks for you help

First of all I can%26#39;t really help with clubs as I hardly go out in clubs, but I might be able to give you a few recommendations for bars and restaurants. You could buy a copy of TIP, Zitty or ExBerliner when in Berlin. These are like the Time Out in London. TIP and Zitty are in German while the ExBerliner is in English. All three have listenings on what is going on where and what clubs play what kind of music at what day. Even without speaking German you should find this information in the TIP and Zitty magazine.

Around Potsdamer Platz you%26#39;ll find heaps of bars and restaurant but I personally only like that area for ice cream (in the shopping mall is a great ice cream cafe) and shopping. I went to a few restaurants there and with many I was dissapointed when it comes to service. Two places I can recommend are

Modern Art of Asia, Leipziger Platz 8, phone 22488087 , e-mail info@maoa.de, www.maoa.de

Billy Wilders, Potsdamer Str. 2, http://www.billywilders.de/ If you be able to get a seat at the windows than you can people (tourists and locals) watch there.

In walking distance is a club called 40 seconds which is quite nice. They have a nice window front so you have a great view of the Potsdamer Platz. The club is at Potsdamer Str. 58 They also have an English site at http://www.40seconds.de/ where you can look what is on as they have changing themes.

Most of the sights are found in Mitte so you%26#39;ll probably have your lunch there. I hardly go out in Mitte as I find it quite touristy and many places are a rip off. Anyway, you still find heaps of nice places there.

I quite like Cafe Rosenrot at Oranienburger Str. 32

For meals in the evening I would recommend going to Schöneberg or Prenzlauer Berg. Both areas are easily reached by underground from your hotel. In Schöneberg you%26#39;ll find mainly bars and restaurants especially around Winterfeldplatz and Goltzstr. (underground station Nollendorfplatz). In that area I quite like

Mr. Hu (Cocktailbar), Goltzstr. 39

Tims, Maaßenstr. 14 http://www.tims-winterfeldtplatz.de/

but there are many more ... just have a look around and you%26#39;ll find a place you like.

If you take the U2 in the other direction from Potsdamer Platz you get to Prenzlauer Berg. Just get off at Eberswalder Str. and there you%26#39;ll find another great area for going out around Kastanienallee, Helmholtzplatz and Kollwitzplatz.

River facing bars ...

Freischwimmer, Vor dem Schlesischen Tor 2a (nearest underground station Schlesisches Tor or S-BAhnstation Treptower Park) http://www.freischwimmer-berlin.de/

Strandbar Mitte, Monbijou Park in Mitte http://www.strandbar-mitte.de/

Oststrand, Eastside Gallery, Mühlenstr. see above website

if you want to go swimming and have a few drinks afterwards you could check out the Badeschiff www.arena-berlin.de/badeschiff.aspx…

Whatever day of the week ... you%26#39;ll always find busy bars and restaurants. So don%26#39;t worry Sunday wont be quiet. Maybe not as busy as Friday or Saturday night but far away from being quiet.

Markets ...

there is a great farmers market on Winterfeldplatz on Saturdays and a flea/antique/art market on Straße des 17.Juni (S-Bahnstation Tiergarten) on SAturday and Sunday.

Even if you have breakfast included you should skip it one morning and check out one of the many cafes in Berlin who offer a breakfast buffet. Best day for a breakfast buffet is Sunday. My favourite ones at the moment are

TeeTeaThe, Goltzstr. 2 (it%26#39;s a non smoking cafe though)

Morgenland, Skalitzer Str. (I think, anyway it%26#39;s directly opposite the underground station Görlitzer Bahnhof)

Estoria, Kollwitzplatz

A different way to see Berlin is doing a trabi safari, might be something for you. http://www.trabi-safari.de/
