Busabout vs. Eurail Pass

Hi there:

Does anybody have experience taking a tour with Busabout (Flexipass). Why did you pick Busabout instead of a Eurail Pass?

Could you tell me about the trip, the guides, the stops and how easy or difficult it was to put the trip together?

Thank you very much!

Als a Busabout Flexipass makes Busabout not really flexible.

Your options for Germany:

Berlin, Dresden, Munich, Stuttgart

And all served only every 2nd day. Makes 2 Busabout buses per day serving Germany.

With an Eurail Pass you have the flexibility to choose from about 35,000 trains per day in Germany.

And consider also the travel times involved.

Amsterdam - Berlin

Busabout: 10 hours

Train: 6 hours

Munich - Paris

Busabout: 13 hours

Train: from 6 hours

Thus train gives you more flexibility:

- which cities you can choose (train: all)

- how long you want to stay there (Busabout: only 2, 4, 6 ... days)

Furthermore are most trains more comfortable than a bus. And some train routes are really scenic, e.g. the Elbe valley south of Dresden on the Berlin - Prague route. Buses will stick to the autobahns and their soon boring rest stops.

Than there are also night train which can save you further time (you have to pay however extra for the type of accommodation you like, but on the same time you save the hostel/hotel costs).

Another aspect is that Busabout is nearly exclusively used by Non-Europeans. While on the trains you will find also European backpackers, students etc.

an economical approach:

What do you want to buy with your money?

time in these cities for sightseeing or whatever you like

Not time spent for sleeping in foreign beds and to travel on buses/trains between the cities. Both are however unavoidable musts. Thus the question you should ask is: how much time in the cities do I get if I buy pass X or Y.

While a rail pass maybe more expensive it will give you more time for sightseeing due the shorter travel times and more frequent schedules.

Thank you for taking the time to write all that.... it makes a lot of sense!

Greetings!
