24 hours in Munich!!! Where to stay? What to do?

I really hope someone can help here. My 23yr old son has a 24 hour lay over in Munich in a week or so. He is a bit reluctant to leave the airport area and explore a bit. He will arrive at 2pm and leave at 5pm the following day. I think it would be a waste to sit in a hotel room near the airport but don%26#39;t want to suggest anything too complicated or stressful we don%26#39;t know Munich at all. I%26#39;m thinking an easy route to a hotel more central and at least a visit to a beer garden or something. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Somewhere near Hauptbahnhof (main railway station) or Marienplatz (the centre of the old town). These place are directly connected by S-Bahn trains to the airport. And close to the sights and beer halls and beer gardens of Munich (all in walking distance).

Stay near in Marienplatz, use that as your station. It%26#39;s 45 min from the airport on S bahn direct route. I%26#39;d recommend Hotel Blauer Bock,

it%26#39;s just off Viktualienmarkt. 300 yds from Marienplatz. Cheap but clean, good breakfast, fantastic location..

Viktualienmarkt has got a very friendly (small) beer garden and lots of interest in the immediate area. He can be checked into the hotel and having a nice beer in friendly surroundings by 4pm. Also, opposite the hotel is a local night-life place, food, music, young crowd. Saves exploring further a field at night.

Stoofer.

I also think for a first time visit the Hotel Blauer Bock is ideal, it%26#39;s located near Marienplatz and right beside the chaming local market with beer gardens and authentic Bavarian food, Viktualienmarkt:

A single room with bathroom ensuite starts at 64 Euro, with bath room along the corridor it%26#39;s 45 Euro, all including breakfast.

To get to Hotel Blauer he should get off the train (S-Bahn) from the airport at the stop Marienplatz, see map:

The train from the airport takes about 40 minutes to Marienplatz.

If they don%26#39;t have a free room at the Blauer Bock, there is always the also very central, a bit more comfortable Mercure Altstadt, from 89 Euro a night (without breakfast), located in Hottter Str. 4, also near the Marienplatz:

Maybe you should also book him on a bike tour of Munich, whenever I see those 20-somethings on their distinctive bikes riding through Munich they always seem to be enjoying themselves!
