Travel in Berlin

11 of us are arriving at Tegel Airport and we need to travel to Mitte area where we are staying Thursday afternoon and return Saturaday afternoon.

What is the best way to do this?

Also we are going to visit Sanssouci Palace whatis the best way to get to this?

2 of us are going back to the airport 5am Saturday morning what the best way to travel

No problem to reach the airport at 5am on a Saturday morning.

Best will be a combination of mini group day tickets and single day tickets.

To travel around in Berlin you need tickets for zones Berlin AB.

To travel also to Potsdam you need tickets for zones Berlin ABC.

Covered are:

- regional trains (RB RegionalBahn and RE ReginalExpress)

- S-Bahn

- U-Bahn

- trams

- buses

- some ferries

Berlin has a pretty good and efficient public transport system so your best mode of travel in Berlin is public transport.

It is also easy to get to Potsdam by public transport. The already mentioned route planer on www.bvg.de is reliable and helpful.

It is also no problem to get to the airport around 5am by public transport. A bit quicker that early in the morning might be a taxi depending on from where you have to travel.

No. Tegel is only served by buses.

It was always considered as a temporary airport.

Sanssouci Palace (whole Potsdam) is in zone Berlin C, thus tickets for Berlin ABC will cover the travel to Sanssouci Palace.

Berlin Welcome Card 48 hours Berlin ABC is EUR 17,50.

mini group day ticket (up to 5 persons) Berlin ABC is EUR 15,60.

single day ticket Berlin ABC is EUR 6,00.

With 2 days and for 11 persons:

2 x (2 x 15,60 + 6,00) = EUR 74,40 = EUR 6,74 per person for 2 days

Berlin Welcome Card gives no discount for Sanssouci Palace.

Entrance is EUR 12,00 pp

Generally: with 11 persons you may qualify for group offers/discounts. You can however not combine them with the discounts of the Welcome Card.

I would recommend a group tour.

EUR 8,00 pp plus a fee of EUR 80,00.

- the group tour is 2 hours and covers Sanssouci Palace and Park (more than the standard tour for EUR 12,00 covers)

- for the standard tours you can only buy tickets on the day for the next tour not already sold out. Sanssouci Palace is rather small with limited capacity. Thus this means that you may get only tickets for a tour a few hours later or even not at all.

The group tour has to be booked in advance and thus you can be sure that you have a tour at the booked date and time.
