Directions to Rhine River from Munich for Boat Tour

Is there a bus that takes you to one of the towns at the beginning of the Castle Tour region? A train? Is an all inclusive tour best.? I have a Eurail Selectpass which includes Germany. Isn%26#39;t there a discount with that? How long from is the trip from Bingen to Koblenz? Is that the best (prettiest/most castles)?

Are you coming from Munich or the Romantic Road towns such as Rothenburg? The Romantic Road bus ends in Wuerzburg, from which you would go to Bingen on the Rhein. Most of the famous castles and views of them are in the Middle Rhein Valley between Bingen and Koblenz.

.

Or, if you need to take the train from Munich to Bingen, it would be via Frankfurt, about 4 or 5 hours. From Bingen, you could take the K-D boats (be sure it%26#39;s that company--they honor the Eurail Pass and it will be no charge when you show the pass) to any one of many villages between Bingen and Koblenz to visit castles. It depends on whether you want to stay onthe boat and cruise only or stop and visit villages.

You can visit the Marksburg Castle across from Koblenz in Brodenbach. It is very well preserved and the tour is very interesting. Many of the villages along the way have a castle overlooking them it would be best to get a Rhein map (for sale at the ticket kisoks along the Rhein) to show the many other possibilities. Also, search on this forum under Middle rhine Valley. Previous posts on this very subject should come up..

Bingen to Koblenz is the most interesting part.

The boats need 3:40 for this trip. Departure in Bingen is at 09:30, 10:30, 11:30, 14:30, 16:30.

Both the trains from Munich to Bingen and the KD boats are fully covered by your Eurail pass.

Thank you both very much. As always, time is a factor and this precise information will be very useful in planning this interesting part of the trip.
